Area Attractions

The historic metro station, Budapest Keleti Palyaudvar, near Puskas Ferenc Stadium is situated on Baross Square. An impressive building, the railway station was one of the most modern stations in the world when it was built in the early 1880s. The architectural style of the station is eclectic. While still used as a metro station, many visitors tour to learn its history and admire the decorated building.

Additionally, nearby the stadium and the downtown area is the Budapest City Park. At the public park's main entrance is Heroes' Square, a World Heritage site. The park has pathways, benches, a lake and island.

The most prominent landmark in the park is the beautiful Vajdahunyad Castle. Built in the 1890s and completed in 1902, the castle's designer was Ignac Alpar. The design for the castle is similar to another castle with the same name, Vajdahunyad, located in Romania in the historic region of Transylvania, but it also features a variety of distinct architectural design styles such as Baroque, Gothic and Romantic. Touring the fascinating castle is an adventure into the past.
