Hungaroring in Budapest

Hungaroring, less than a half an hour's drive from Budapest, is the race track where the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix takes place. Designed to be much like the Circuit de Monaco, Hungaroring held its first Grand Prix event in 1986, significant as the first track and Grand Prix event to happen in a Communist country.

Work had begun on the racing circuit only months before in October of 1985. The first event in March of 1986 was dedicated to the first Hungarian who won Grand Prix motorcycle races, Janos Drapal. Now, Hungaroring is one of most popular attractions tourists visit in Hungary.

The race track, Hungaroring, is only a thirty-minute drive northeast from Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Budapest is the country's center for government, transport, industry, commerce, and culture. Museums, historic monuments and buildings, the elaborate Parliament Building that is home to the Hungarian Crown Jewels, the markets, the authentic Hungarian cuisine and so much more combine as a flavor of all the best of the country.

When visitors are staying in the area to attend an exciting Formula 1 race, they can find other interesting sites in and near Budapest. The Castle District and Castle Hill have many ancient buildings, amazing churches, museums, squares and monumental statues. Impressive views and rich history are found here. For instance, Matthias Church is over seven hundred years old.

Then, the nearby Fishermen's Bastion named because the Fishermen's Guild was assigned to defend this section of the city walls. The panoramic views of the city below are spectacular, many trails and stairways explore the area, and the ornate terrace with seven spire towers memorialize the seven tribes of Magyar people who occupied the region in the late 800s A.D.

One of the places all visitors to Hungaroring and the Budapest area should visit is one of the reputable Baths. One of the most highly famous of these is the beautiful Szechenyi Baths in a stunning setting located between Hungaroring and the heart of Budapest. The traditional baths were started by the Turks in this region six hundred years ago.
