Budapest Airport Hotels

Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport, formerly known as, Budapest Ferihegy International Airport (BUD) is the largest airport in Hungary. This airport serves over eight million passengers a year. It is located in Budapest, the capitol of Hungary. Plans for the airport began in 1938. Today there are still plans to expand and improve this facility. With cutting edge technology and continual improvements, this airport is your gateway to Hungarian travel.

Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport

The Budapest Airport in Hungary has had its name changed from the Budapest Ferihegy International Airport to the Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport. Construction on the airport began during the 1940s and it was opened for civilian use in the 1950s. The airport’s opening was delayed due to World War II and the Soviet presence in Hungary.

The airport is 10 miles (16 kilometers) southeast of Budapest. Passengers can travel directly from the airport to the city by train, city bus, shuttle bus, taxi or car.

Budapest Airport has three terminals. Budget airlines use Terminal 1. Terminal 2A is a hub for Malév Hungarian Airlines. International flights fly in and out of Terminal 2B. Terminal 1 is not within walking distance of the other terminals. There is bus service between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B are connected by the new SkyCourt building. The SkyCourt opened in 2011. Several shops and restaurants are located here. Passengers can buy clothes and fashion accessories at Burberry, Polo Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss. Jewelry is sold at Caprice and Frey Wille. Memories of Hungary sells gifts and souvenirs. Restaurants in the SkyCourt serve Greek, Italian and Asian Cuisine. Fast food selections here include burgers and chicken.

Gifts, souvenirs, books and newspapers are sold at shops in Terminal 2A and Terminal 2B. These terminals have coffee shops and fast food restaurants. Flocafé in Terminal 2B serves sandwiches and salads.

Terminal 1 has coffee shops and a bakery. Drinks, snacks, books and magazines are available at the HUB outlet here. Every terminal has a Heinemann Duty Free shop where passengers can purchase chocolate, perfume and accessories.

All terminals at the airport have tourist information centers, ATMs and facilities for currency exchange. There are business lounges in Terminal 2A, Terminal 2B and the SkyCourt. Car rental companies have counters in Terminal 1 and the SkyCourt. Internet access is provided in the SkyCourt and Terminal 1. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2A have post offices.
